Briefly about two cool projects that I got to know at an event at the University of Basel Department of History: “AI4Europeana” and “DE-BIAS”. Both are supported by the EU and could help to better overcome the challenges in the work of archives and collections.
“AI4Europeana” is working on a platform called "AI4Culture". This is intended to help make better use of AI technologies in the cultural heritage sector. The platform provides resources and tools to help make archives and collections more efficient and more accessible.
The “DE-BIAS” project takes a different approach. The aim here is to identify and adapt problematic terms in the metadata of archives and collections. This can ensure that descriptions remain current and do not exclude or offend anyone.
I think that these two projects can open up new ways to modernise archives and collections and make them future-proof.
Take a look at the projects, they are really interesting!

Thank you Sofie Taes from KU Leuven for the very interesting lecture “There is an I and a Y in community. Europeana and the Data Space as a socio-cultural ecosystem”. And Peter Fornaro for moderating and organising the event.
