At the event "Uni konkret: Artificial Intelligence - from the lab directly into practice" organized by the Chamber of Commerce of both Basel, the innovative system "vitrivr" was introduced among others.
This system is revolutionizing the search for information in different media by using similarity search (Vector Space Retrieval) to transform data into mathematical vectors. The distance between the vectors then determines the probability of similarity of the searched information.
The scientists of the Research Group Databases and Information Systems (DBIS) of the University of Basel have the goal with the system to enable an efficient analysis of multimedia data sets. They are continuously working on further developing the system and optimizing the search across different media.
An example of a practical application of vitrivr is the online search interface "Archipanion". Here, the vitrivr system is used to make stocks in archives and collections easily accessible and searchable without deep indexing. A newly launched InnoSuisse project in collaboration with 4eyes is working on further developing this search.
Another exciting project is "GoFind!". This is a smartphone application that uses vitrivr to explore the cultural architectural heritage in Basel. GoFind! was created in a loose cooperation with the University Library Basel and the project "Disappeared Basel".
"XReco" is another project that benefits from vitrivr. It is a Horizon Europe project with Swiss participation via SBFI, which enables a content-based search in a mixed-reality environment. XReco is able to recognize live objects and sensibly present the results in the environment.
Finally, there is "VIRTUE", with which vitrivr curates virtual exhibitions. Museum contents are automatically put together and exhibition rooms with similar contents are created. The project was presented to the public this year at the Basel Museum Night and together with Archipanion at the Bern Museum Night.
Thus, an innovative technology is made usable for various digital applications. The users will be pleased!

With Archipanion, you can also use vitrivr directly for your assets.
